Hilo's New Bowling Alley
GUTTER BALLS AND FAMILY FUN: HILO TO WELCOME NEW BOWLING ALLEY
Hilo, Hawaiʻi – Get ready to lace up those bowling shoes, Hilo! The Kaholo Crown Land Conservation is excited to announce the planned launch of a brand-new bowling alley in 2025 or 2026. This project aims to provide a much-needed recreational center for families and a safe, engaging space for teens in the Hilo community.
Since the closure of Hilo's previous bowling alley in 2014, the absence of such a facility has been keenly felt. "Our ʻohana need more options for family activities," says Kimo Lehua, a Hilo resident and father of three. "A bowling alley is the perfect place for keiki and teens to have fun, socialize, and stay out of trouble."
The Kaholo Crown Land Conservation recognizes the importance of providing recreational opportunities that foster a sense of community and support the well-being of Hilo's youth. The new bowling alley will offer:
A family-friendly environment: With its focus on ʻohana, the center will provide a safe and welcoming space for people of all ages.
Youth programs: The alley plans to host leagues, tournaments, and after-school programs designed to engage young people and promote healthy competition and camaraderie.
Community events: The facility will be available for birthday parties, fundraisers, and other community gatherings, further strengthening Hilo's social fabric.
"We envision this project as more than just a bowling alley," explains Leilani Kahoʻokele, Board Member of the Kaholo Crown Land Conservation. "It's an investment in our community, a place where families can connect, and our youth can thrive."
While an exact opening date has yet to be finalized, the Kaholo Crown Land Conservation is committed to bringing this project to fruition in 2025 or 2026. Stay tuned for updates on this exciting development that's sure to strike a chord with Hilo residents!
Hilo's New Teen Dance Halls
STRIKES, SPARES, AND SPINNING TUNES: HILO'S NEW BOWLING ALLEY TO FEATURE TEEN DANCE HALLS
Hilo, Hawaiʻi – Get ready to hit the lanes and the dance floor, Hilo! The Kaholo Crown Land Conservation's planned bowling alley is set to be a multi-purpose entertainment hub, complete with dedicated teen dance halls. This exciting addition aims to provide a safe and engaging space for Hilo's youth to socialize, express themselves, and enjoy their free time.
Recognizing the need for more teen-centric spaces in Hilo, the Kaholo Crown Land Conservation has incorporated dance halls into the bowling alley's design. These vibrant spaces will offer:
A dedicated space for teens: Separate from the family-friendly bowling area, the dance halls will provide teens with a sense of ownership and freedom.
Regular dance nights: Featuring a variety of music genres, from contemporary hits to traditional Hawaiian music, catering to diverse tastes.
Special events: The halls can be used for teen-focused events like school dances, talent shows, and organized gatherings.
Safe and supervised environment: Trained staff will be present to ensure the safety and well-being of all attendees.
"We want to create a place where teens feel welcome and can express themselves creatively," says Leilani Kahoʻokele, Director of the Kaholo Crown Land Conservation. "The dance halls will be a fantastic outlet for them to connect with their peers, have fun, and build positive memories."
The integration of dance halls within the bowling alley structure offers a unique and dynamic entertainment experience for Hilo's youth. It's a place where they can bowl a few strikes with friends and then transition to the dance floor to show off their moves.
This innovative approach to recreation addresses a critical need in the community, providing teens with a dedicated space for socializing and creative expression. With its planned opening in 2025 or 2026, the bowling alley and teen dance halls are poised to become a vibrant hub for Hilo's youth and a valuable asset to the entire community
